A series of strikes are underway in France today Tuesday 17 May over planned labour reforms which will make it easier to hire and fire workers.
Transport across the entire country will be heavily disrupted as workers from ports, trains and airports walk off the job, whilst lorry drivers have begun to block motorways. In addition to the strike action protests are planned in Paris and various other cities around France. The most serious disruption is expected throughout 17 May and 19 May, which additional problems anticipated on 18 May.
Paris’ Orly and Charles de Gaulle airports are both anticipating severe disruption to flight schedules including cancellation of some flights as technicians, engineers and air traffic controllers join the strike. TGV train services are running approximately two thirds of their services.
Eurostar meanwhile have reported that they are running a normal service with no cancellations anticipated.
